The protagonist Charles Balanda had no characteristics or happenings at all that intrigued me whatsoever. Einerseits war es sehr anstrengend zu lesen, ich war ein paar Mal kurz davor, abzubrechen. I will read it again I’m sure. The highlight of this novel for me was a brief cameo from some particularly loveable characters from one of Gavalda’s previous novels, which also gave a great sense of completeness to Gavalda’s growing portrait of modern Parisian life.
